Internet Fraud Alert: “Yahoo Boy” Scams German Woman of $18,000

A well-known internet fraudster, colloquially referred to as a “Yahoo boy,” allegedly defrauded a German woman of a staggering $18,000 by masquerading as a reputable website designer. The shocking incident came to light through a series of candid videos she shared on TikTok, detailing how her pursuit of professional web services turned into a costly nightmare.

According to her account, the ordeal began when she publicly announced her need for a skilled developer during a keynote speech at a tech meetup. Within hours, the scammer—posing as an industry specialist—reached out via direct message, praising her project vision and promising a premium website build within weeks.

Flattered by his technical jargon and apparent portfolio links, she agreed to the terms. She transferred funds via PayPal for custom templates, secured exclusive domain rights, and even provided hosting credentials. Over the next two weeks, she received mock-up designs and status updates that seemed legitimate—until things went silent.

After days of unanswered messages and a frozen PayPal transaction, she grew suspicious. Fate intervened when the fraudster, forgetting to scrub his own details, saved her number in his contacts and showcased her profile picture on his WhatsApp status. Upon recognizing his face from a series of online fraud alerts, she realized the devastating truth: she had been scammed.

Detailing her loss in another TikTok clip, she lamented:

“🙏🏻 I’m in debt, $18k in general. That’s why him and I made a deal. I sent PayPal for templates and gave the domains, etc. My loss is in losing time where it should be working now. I trusted his ‘portfolio’ too quickly.”

Despite the emotional and financial toll, the woman appealed for calm, refusing to incite vigilantism. “I’m not dropping the name. I don’t want a witch hunt,” she asserted, emphasizing that her goal was awareness, not retaliation.
