A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to seek advice after a major domestic dispute involving her husband and her mother-in-law escalated into a serious marital problem. The woman narrated her experience in a post originally shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by @TweetbyRuda, explaining how a seemingly harmless request turned into a significant rift in her marriage and created tension in the household.
According to her detailed account, the situation started when her mother-in-law came over to spend the holidays with them. Prior to her arrival, the husband had fondly reminisced about his childhood, specifically mentioning a special local stew with fresh fish that his mother used to make. He expressed a strong desire for his mother to cook this special meal again for the family during her stay. Although the wife admitted that she did not like the idea of someone else cooking in her kitchen, she chose not to argue, assuming that her mother-in-law would politely decline out of respect for her position as the woman of the house.
However, to her surprise, her mother-in-law not only agreed to cook but also collected money directly from her husband without her knowledge, went shopping alone, and prepared the stew in her kitchen. The wife, feeling disrespected and undermined, decided not to eat the food and instructed her children to do the same. This decision further escalated the situation, leading the mother-in-law to report her behavior to her husband. She told him that she had refused to eat the food and had also stopped the children from partaking in the meal.

Mind you, we’ve never had problems before if not now.
Personally, I didn’t like the idea but I didn’t argue with him, instead, I expected his mom to decline and tell him to let me handle my kitchen since it’s my home. However, Mama accepted, took money from my husband without informing me, went on her own to buy all the ingredients, and cooked the stew. I told my children not to eat her food, and I didn’t eat it as well.
She reported me to my husband, saying that I refused to eat the food she cooked and that I instructed the kids to avoid it too. When I explained my reasons to my husband, he became angry and ordered me to apologize to his mom. But I refused because I didn’t believe I was wrong. Since then, both my husband and his mother have been acting cold towards me and treating me differently.
