Presidential aide, Daniel Bwala, has sparked intense debate online after making a bold comparison between Mr Peter Obi, former presidential candidate, and controversial activist, Verydarkman. During a recent interview on Channels TV, Bwala criticized Peter Obi for not visiting the victims of the recent Fulani attack in Benue state, arguing that this demonstrated a lack of empathy on Obi’s part.
Bwala expressed his disappointment, stating that leadership is not only about making speeches or attending rallies but also about physically showing up to offer comfort and solidarity to those in pain. According to him, the former Anambra State governor missed an opportunity to demonstrate true compassion and connect directly with the people affected by the tragic incident.
It will be recalled that in June 2025, a brutal attack reportedly carried out by Fulani herdsmen took place in Benue, resulting in the deaths of numerous innocent villagers and leaving many others injured and displaced. The attack further fueled the ongoing insecurity crisis in the Middle Belt region and attracted widespread national mourning and outrage.
Bwala argued that despite not holding a political office, Verydarkman traveled to Benue to visit and support the victims, showcasing a higher level of empathy and humanity. In his view, this move by Verydarkman starkly contrasted with Peter Obi’s inaction, undermining Obi’s public image as a "people-focused" politician.
When confronted about President Bola Tinubu’s failure to also visit the affected community in Yelwata, Benue, Bwala defended his principal by stating that the enormous responsibilities of national leadership sometimes require prioritizing certain tasks over others. He suggested that while visiting victims is important, the president’s broader duty to the nation must also be considered.
Daniel Bwala said in part …
“Verydarkman has more empathy than Peter Obi; he wasn’t a politician, but he visited Benue state. Why does he have to wait until he becomes the president before he comes to Benue? Why will he wait until he becomes president before he will demonstrate – empathy is faster and it can be public…”
