A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Ifeme Rebecca Yahoma, popularly known as Becky, has finally broken her silence to address the swirling rumors accusing her of denying her alleged boyfriend after a viral photo sparked heated debates on social media. The young student took to social media to set the record straight and share her side of the story in an emotional video statement.

The controversy started when popular YouTuber and content creator Asherkine visited the UNN campus to surprise Rebecca with an expensive outing, which included shopping, buying her a new phone, and other luxury treats. During their initial interaction, Asherkine asked Rebecca whether she was in a relationship, to which she confidently responded that she had never had a boyfriend. This moment was captured on video and widely shared, gaining a lot of attention and praise online.

However, soon after the video went viral, a photo emerged showing Rebecca with a man identified as Ken, who claimed that he was her boyfriend. The photo quickly circulated on multiple platforms, leading to widespread criticism and accusations that Rebecca had lied to Asherkine in order to receive gifts and attention. Many social media users accused her of being disloyal and of using the situation for clout.

In her detailed video response, Rebecca categorically denied knowing the man in question and firmly rejected all allegations against her. She explained that the name “Becky Chinaza” used by the accuser was not hers and insisted that she had never communicated with him.

“I’m here to debunk the whole story going around about me denying my boyfriend. First of all, the name ‘Becky Chinaza’ he is using is not my name. I don’t know who this person is at all,” she stated clearly in the video.

She further elaborated that the WhatsApp messages being shared were not from her, highlighting that even the display picture and the language used did not match hers. Rebecca expressed her shock at how someone could go to such lengths to fabricate a story about her.

“The WhatsApp message he’s been sharing across social media is not me — that isn’t even my DP on WhatsApp. Even the replies don’t sound like me. I don’t speak that kind of English,” she added.

Rebecca reiterated multiple times that she has never had a boyfriend and emphasized her innocence in the matter. She also challenged the man to provide solid evidence of their supposed relationship rather than resorting to editing and photoshopping content from her TikTok videos.

“I am so much innocent of all these accusations. I will keep saying it — I do not have a boyfriend, and I have never, ever had a boyfriend,” she declared firmly.

“If he is claiming to be my boyfriend, he should bring more evidence and stop going to my TikTok to screenshot the videos I have already made and photoshopping them,” she further challenged.

The video has since gone viral, attracting a flood of reactions from social media users. While many have expressed admiration for Rebecca’s courage to defend herself publicly, others remain skeptical, insisting that more clarifications are needed.

In a show of support, the Department of Mass Communication at UNN, where Rebecca is reportedly studying, issued an official statement condemning the spread of false information and defamatory content. The department described the viral photo as fake and damaging, affirming that Rebecca has their full support as she navigates this difficult time.

Rebecca concluded her video by thanking those who have stood by her and urged everyone to avoid spreading false narratives that can harm a person’s reputation and mental health.
