The incident was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @Adamthallith, who claimed that the man involved is a close friend of his. According to the series of posts, the Nigerian man allegedly told his female colleague that she was “adding weight” and went further to suggest that if she joined a gym, her body shape would “really make sense.”

However, the lady found the comment deeply offensive and reported the matter to management, expressing that the unsolicited remarks about her body had left her feeling “traumatized.” This led to the company summoning the man to face a disciplinary panel scheduled for Tuesday.

“One of our guys here in the UK will face a disciplinary committee on Tuesday at his workplace because he told his white female colleague that she’s adding weight and if she enters a gym, her shape will really make sense. The lady said she’s traumatized by his remarks about her body,” the post reads.

The poster, visibly worried, shared his fears over the potential outcome, especially considering that the man’s stay in the UK is tied to his employment status. The company sponsoring his visa has the authority to terminate his contract, which could lead to deportation if he loses his job.

“All I’m praying for right now is for him to be warned or something, because that’s the company that sponsored his visa to the UK. If they terminate his appointment, it means he’ll have to leave the country,” he added, reflecting the gravity of the situation.

Further revelations by the poster indicate that this is not the first time his friend has been caught up in workplace controversies. He recounted an earlier incident where the same man allegedly asked two lesbian colleagues how they had their daughter. That particular incident almost cost him his job, but he was saved by the intervention of an acting director, who was also Nigerian, and who helped shield him from immediate termination at the time.

“This same guy was asking two of his colleagues, who are lesbians, how they had their daughter. He was warned then and protected by the acting director, who was also a Nigerian. I’m just too sad and worried about him ffs,” the poster lamented.

The story has sparked a heated discussion online about workplace decorum, cultural sensitivity, and the importance of respecting personal boundaries in professional environments. Many commenters emphasized the potential consequences of seemingly casual remarks, especially in diverse and multicultural settings like the UK.

@Abu_Yaaseer: “See ehn! Once they ask the victim ‘how does this make you feel?’ And she uses ‘traumatised’ then so pe O ti lò.”

@howolarbeeholla: “He was only looking out for her (Maybe they do relate very well). I hope he learns how to overlook things. He is not in Nigeria where you can just dish out some words without anyone asking for your opinion.”

@ridwan_on_x: “One thing I do and I do very well is minding my business.”

@M33natAjibola: “😹😹😹😹 I’m not sorry for him. If he makes it through, good; if not, at least he has learnt his lesson.”
