A former Superintendent of the Nigerian Police Force has sparked outrage online after revealing that he was only awarded ₦2 million as his total pension entitlement following 35 years of service to the nation.
The incident gained traction after a video of the distressed officer was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @ChuksEricE. In the video, the visibly heartbroken officer recounted his frustration and disbelief after receiving notification of the final payment amount.
According to the officer, he officially retired on October 1, 2023, but did not receive any payments or follow-up from the police pension authorities for several months. He only recently received communication regarding his supposed pension payment.
“I retired from the Nigerian Police in 2023, October 1st. Since then, nothing has been paid to me. Just two weeks ago, they called me and said they’re going to pay me ₦3 million. I asked, ‘What for?’ They said that’s my pension,” he revealed in the emotional footage.
Further clarifying the amount, he explained that ₦1 million was allegedly calculated as his arrears from the time of his retirement till the date of the call, while the remaining ₦2 million was declared to be the total pension entitlement he was due for over three decades of service.
“The ₦3 million is not just the whole pension. That ₦1 million is my arrears from the time I retired till date, and ₦2 million is my entitlement. I can’t serve this country for a good 35 years and be paid ₦2 million. The devil is a liar.”
The video quickly went viral, igniting a storm of public reaction. Many Nigerians took to social media to express their disappointment in the system and criticize the treatment of public servants after years of dedication to duty.
Some commenters showed sympathy, while others responded with harsh criticism, pointing to the alleged corruption and misconduct associated with some members of the police force.

@AMoCodeNG: “When the citizens protest for better governance, you guys shot at them. Enjoy what you get.”
@youmustbegood11: “You see Nigerian Police officers? I don’t feel 1% pity for them. They’ve caused pains, deaths, and countless sorrows to many Nigerians. If the 2 Million won’t be enough, he should go buy rat poison and end it ASAP.”

As calls mount for justice and reform, Nigerians are urging the federal government, the Inspector General of Police, and pension authorities to investigate the matter and address the poor remuneration system for retired officers. Many are also questioning how those who dedicated their lives to national security can be left with so little.[/p>
