A POS agent, who also serves as a thrift collector, has cried out for help after her bag containing over ₦150,000 was stolen from her shop while she briefly stepped out to get something for her children. The incident occurred in broad daylight when the agent locked up her shop, leaving everything secure, but upon her return, she found that her shop had been broken into, and the bag with the money was missing. The POS agent took to her X (formerly Twitter) page to share her emotional distress and call for assistance. She stated that this theft had left her in a very difficult situation, both personally and financially, as the stolen funds were vital for her business and her customers’ thrift contributions.
In her post, the POS agent expressed that the money taken was not entirely hers, as it included funds she had collected from people for thrift contributions, which she had been managing on their behalf. According to her, 75% of the stolen ₦150,000 wasn’t for her personal use but for others she was helping through her thrift collection. She shared how this theft had placed her in a very tight spot, explaining that the stolen money was meant to help settle her business obligations, including repaying customers by the end of the month. She emphasized how urgent it was for her to find a solution to this problem so she could keep her business afloat and pay back the people who trusted her with their funds.

The post, which has garnered a lot of sympathy from online users, highlighted the agent’s dire situation. In her heartfelt message, she wrote, “My life is crumbling. Just pray I pass this moment,” illustrating the emotional weight of the incident. She further shared the details of the day, recalling how she had stepped out in the afternoon to get something for her children, securing the shop by locking the burglary gate. However, when she returned, she was devastated to find that her bag containing the significant amount of money was gone, and her shop had been broken into. Her frustration was palpable, as she expressed how hard it was for her to come to terms with the theft and its consequences on her business and livelihood.
In a follow-up message, she appealed for public assistance, seeking help in raising the funds necessary to repay her debt to the contributors and keep her business running. She described how the stolen money had been crucial for her ongoing business operations, and without it, she was unsure how she would meet her financial obligations. Her plea to the public underscored the challenges small business owners often face and the vulnerability they experience when dealing with theft and loss. Many supporters responded with words of encouragement, while some expressed their willingness to help her out of her tough situation. However, the POS agent continues to ask for help as she faces the prospect of not being able to pay back the money on time without assistance.
