A Nigerian man identified as Chukwuka Nweke has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal rape and murder of a 61-year-old white woman in Italy.
The victim, a 61-year-old woman from Rovereto, has been identified as Iris Setti. She was reportedly assaulted in a violent attack that led to her tragic death.
According to reports, Chukwuka Nweke, who was known to have a history of drug abuse, physically attacked the elderly woman in a public park located in the northeastern Italian city of Rovereto, within the province of Trento.
Italian news agency ANSA reported that Nweke was found guilty on three serious charges, which include murder, robbery, and sexual violence. As a result, he was sentenced to life in prison by the Italian court.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the Nigerian man launched a vicious attack on Iris Setti, throwing her to the ground and repeatedly striking her face and head with his fists and a blunt object, causing severe injuries.
Following the attack, Nweke reportedly fled the scene. However, authorities swiftly apprehended him, and he was arrested by the police and taken into custody.
Sadly, despite medical intervention, the elderly woman did not survive the brutal assault due to the severity of the injuries she sustained.
The exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, as investigations continue into the tragic incident.
