A Nigerian model has taken to social media to raise awareness and warn others after falling victim to a cunning scammer who lured her with a fake modelling job and made away with her phone and personal funds.
Sharing her ordeal via her TikTok account, the model detailed how she was approached by a man pretending to be a client looking to book her for a photoshoot. She revealed that the man used convincing tactics to gain her trust, including contacting her through a mutual friend who had previously been scammed in a similar manner.
According to her, the so-called job offer seemed legitimate at first. The suspect took her from one shop to another under the guise of getting her ready for the shoot, including a stop to do her makeup and take preliminary photos.
However, during this process, the man claimed his phone had run out of battery and asked to borrow hers to return an urgent call. Thinking nothing of it, she handed over her phone—but he stepped outside and never came back.
She stated, “He collected my phone to call back the person who called him, he stepped outside to make a call and left with my phone.”
Things got worse when she later discovered the man had also hacked into her accounts and stolen money linked to her device. The model added that the same individual had used her friend’s previously stolen phone to contact her and set up the fake modelling appointment.
The story has gone viral, drawing widespread concern and sparking online conversations about the growing trend of freelance job scams—particularly those targeting young women in the modelling and influencer industry.
