A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to share her disappointment and frustration after being deceived by a man she went on a date with, leading her to lose a total of ₦57,000.
According to her account, she met the man on Instagram, where they started talking and eventually planned to meet in person for a date. On the agreed day, they met at a restaurant, where they had a meal together. However, during the date, the man’s friend unexpectedly joined them and ordered a separate meal, which was not initially part of the plan.
When it was time to settle the bill, the lady noticed that her date began acting strangely. He then told her that he was experiencing issues with his bank app, which prevented him from making any transfers. To convince her, he even showed her his phone as proof of the supposed issue. Not wanting to create a scene or cause embarrassment, the lady decided to pay for the meal with the assurance that he would refund her as soon as possible.
After paying the restaurant bill, the man further requested an additional ₦10,000 in cash, stating that he needed to buy fuel for his car but was unable to access his funds due to the same banking issues. Once again, trusting that he would return the money later, the lady agreed to give him the cash.
However, after the date, things took an unexpected turn. The man failed to reach out to her as promised and did not make any effort to return the money. When she contacted him, he repeatedly gave excuses, claiming that he was sorting out his banking problems and would visit the bank soon to process the refund. But as days passed, she realized he had no intention of paying her back.
By the following week, she attempted to reach out to him again, only to discover that he had blocked her completely. At that moment, she understood that she had been scammed. Feeling both frustrated and deceived, she took to social media to share her story, calling him a “handsome thief” and expressing regret over trusting him simply because of his good looks.
In her post, she wrote:
“Lagos men have shown me shege banza again. I decided to try dating again, and I met this guy on IG. He planned a date, chose the location, and later, his friend joined us at the restaurant. We ordered a platter, but his friend wanted something else, so he told him to order separately.”
“When it was time to pay, he started pacing around. I asked what was wrong, and he said his bank network was down, even showing me his phone. To avoid embarrassment, I suggested making the payment while he promised to refund me as soon as possible. He also asked me to lend him ₦10,000.”
“The first day after the date, I didn’t hear from him. He later said he was sorting out the bank issue and would go to the bank on Monday to send my money. When I asked him again last week, before my finger injury, he claimed to be at the bank. I later found out this werey had blocked me.”
“I ended up paying for both our food and what his friend ordered. On top of that, he still borrowed ₦10,000 in cash for fuel because of ‘bank network issues.'”
“₦47,000 for food, ₦10,000 that he borrowed. A handsome thief. He scammed me because he’s fine.”
Her post quickly gained attention online, sparking reactions from social media users who shared their thoughts on the incident. Some sympathized with her, while others found humor in the situation, offering sarcastic advice and sharing similar experiences.
