A Nigerian businesswoman has reportedly scammed a man of ₦400,000 in a short-let apartment deal, sparking outrage on social media. The woman allegedly collected payment from the unsuspecting client for a rental space in Ikate, Lekki, Lagos State, and then disappeared without delivering on the agreement.
According to a viral post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @nifemi_cognac, the scam was executed after the man made full payment for the apartment. The businesswoman, identified on social media as “msvogg,” proceeded to block all contact with the victim and allegedly switched off all phone lines associated with her. Her Instagram business page, @luxurybymetrocityshortlet, has also come under scrutiny from netizens.
The victim’s friend who shared the story stated: “Hi everyone. My friend was just scammed of 400k by this babe. He was trying to book a short-let apartment from her at Ikate, Lekki. She has blocked him, and all her numbers are switched off. Her name is msvogg and her business page is @luxurybymetrocityshortlet on IG.”
She also shared a clear image of the alleged scammer along with the details, urging the public to be cautious when dealing with unverified service providers online.
The post quickly gained traction online, with several other users stepping forward to recount similar experiences with the same individual. One user, @fortune19_52, commented, “Hi, she scammed my friend too. He sent 650k and she blocked him everywhere.” Another user, @LadyG_008, echoed the trend by writing, “Seems that’s the recent scam. My friend was scammed 400k too for shortlet.”
The incident has raised concerns about the increasing number of scams targeting people seeking temporary housing through social media. It has also sparked a larger conversation about the need for platforms like Instagram to properly verify business accounts and offer more accountability for fraudulent activities.
In the comment section, some users expressed sympathy for the victims, while others questioned the intentions behind the transactions, hinting that there might be more to the story. @hennyRCH13 wrote, “Mk girl dey Scam guy, what’s this country turning to.” @Wond3r_G33 added, “You sure he was trying to book an apartment or hmmm.”
