A Nigerian man has taken to social media to recount a horrifying and traumatizing experience after being robbed by an Uber driver and his friend during what was supposed to be a regular ride to the mall.
In a video posted on his TikTok page, the visibly shaken man detailed how the incident unfolded, expressing disbelief and shock that something so terrifying could happen to him in broad daylight through a trusted transport platform.
According to him, he had booked the Uber ride like any other day and was on his way to the mall. However, upon entering the vehicle, he immediately noticed that there was another male passenger seated inside. Concerned, he asked the driver about the extra person, only to be told that it was his “friend” who would be dropped off shortly.
“I ordered an Uber to go to the mall,” he began. “When I got into the car, I saw another man inside. I asked the driver what someone else was doing in the ride, and he said it was his friend who he was just going to drop off somewhere.”
Despite feeling uneasy about the situation, he chose to remain in the vehicle. Reflecting on the moment, he admitted that his instincts had warned him, but he ignored the red flags.
“He told me not to worry and that once we got to a junction, his friend would get down. That was when I should have listened to my instincts and left the car—but I didn’t,” he added.
The ride soon turned into a nightmare when the man in the passenger seat suddenly turned on him and demanded money.
“As we continued the trip, I still felt uncomfortable. Then suddenly, the guy shouted, ‘Oya open your account, transfer money now or else something go happen to you.’”
He shared that at that point, he feared for his life. Fortunately, he had only taken his Android phone with him, leaving his more expensive iPhone at home, which may have spared him further losses.
“Something happened to me today. I don’t know how to handle it, but I’m alive—and that’s the most important thing,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.
The victim revealed that he was eventually able to escape the situation unharmed, though the incident left him deeply shaken. He urged others to be cautious when entering ride-share vehicles, especially when unexpected individuals are already in the car.
The video has since gone viral, with social media users expressing outrage, concern, and empathy in the comment section.
