A Nigerian man has narrated a terrifying encounter with operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who allegedly broke into his apartment compound at about 3 a.m., leaving residents shocked and frightened.
In a video shared on the X platform (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE, the man detailed the events of the early morning raid, explaining how the situation escalated quickly as EFCC agents entered the premises unannounced.
He recalled being jolted awake by the sound of loud footsteps and confusion outside his window. Moments later, he said he witnessed neighbors panicking and scrambling to escape, with some people jumping over the fence to avoid being caught.
He claimed that the EFCC operatives were shouting commands, urging their fellow officers to chase down fleeing residents and detain them. The atmosphere, according to him, was chaotic and frightening.
“Today, I just had one of the most traumatizing moments of my life. My hands are still shaking,” he said emotionally. “As a youth in this country, I’m not okay. Try your best not to get involved in anything illegal.”
The man revealed that he had only recently moved into the compound — just three weeks before the incident — and considered himself lucky not to have been arrested. He emphasized that he was living legally and that the EFCC operatives asked him questions before proceeding further.
He recounted seeing men with weapons from his window and immediately realized the seriousness of the situation. “If I wasn’t making a living legally, I would probably be in EFCC custody right now,” he said.
He stressed the importance of engaging in legitimate work and staying out of criminal activities, as he believes it saved him from being wrongfully detained during the raid. The man expressed deep concern about the psychological impact of the experience and warned others to be cautious in their choices.
