Man rants after center rug ordered online arrives in nylon via dispatch rider

A Nigerian man has gone viral on social media after expressing deep frustration over a disappointing online shopping experience. He had earlier purchased a centre rug from a physical store in Yaba, Lagos, for over ₦100,000. That rug, a 10×8 in size, was delivered to him in a truck, reflecting its large size and high quality.

Encouraged by that purchase and needing another rug for a different room, the man decided to shop online this time. He placed an order on Temu, where he found a seemingly identical rug at about half the price. According to him, he carefully reviewed the photos, descriptions, and even double-checked the dimensions to ensure it matched the original one he had bought from Yaba.

However, the delivery experience left him stunned. Instead of arriving in a truck like his previous rug, the online order was brought to his doorstep by a dispatch rider—and packed inside a nylon bag.

Man who ordered centre rug online rants.

Sharing his ordeal on the popular platform, X (formerly Twitter), the man narrated how he had been excited about the Temu rug, believing it to be a great deal. But after unwrapping the item, he realized it wasn't what he expected. Though the size was indeed 10×8 as stated, the texture, weight, and quality were vastly inferior to the one he got in Yaba.

He humorously compared the online purchase to a “very large scarf with hair on it,” noting that despite appearing similar in pictures and matching dimensions, the online rug lacked the substance and craftsmanship of the in-store purchase. According to him, the big difference was something pictures and descriptions online simply couldn't reveal.

Expressing his frustration, he wrote:

“I buy centre rug for Yaba. Like the 10×8, over 100k of course.”

“Then I want to buy a second one for another room. I see similar rug on Temu for about half the price. I check dimensions, same thing. The thing even get fur sef… so it must be the same.”

“Then I order it! Walk with me oh. When I bought from Yaba, na truck I put am inside. When my Temu order arrive, na dispatch rider bring am for nylon! Is this a joke?? I enter house, open the nylon, true true na wetin I see online oh. I spread it out, true true na 10×8 oh.”

“The difference is something you can’t check online for. While the one I got from Yaba is an actual rug, the one from online Okija is at best a very large scarf with hair on it.”

“Even after being extra careful to check everything, the only crime we are guilty of is trying to buy something good for much less. But then, isn’t that why anyone ever goes there?”

His post quickly gained traction, attracting numerous comments from fellow users who shared their own mixed experiences with online shopping, particularly on Temu.

See some reactions below:

@ichieEmy: “All these complaints about Temu from Nigerians are actually funny. Why complain when you can actually get a refund?”

@BasedMightysam: “Same here, my rug was the same picture and dimension with the description, but it was very thin. In fact, the edges started folding a few days after because it’s too thin. Those saying 10x8cm is different from 10x8m don’t even know anything about math, that’s length x breadth, not thickness.”

@aniakomichael: “All the things I have ordered on Temu have been very good. I don’t know how you guys end up having these issues.”

@Drchidox: “E be like say Nigerian Temu version dey different from the deliveries abroad. I've actually gotten some nice stuffs from the same Temu.”

@Adebayorabidem3: “Order on Temu at your own risk. Anywhere I see their ads, I’m reporting them. If you leave a good review, I’ll report your account. My experience is similar to yours.”

@zeallonaire: “I even used a ruler to be sure of the size of reflector I am buying. Just picked it few hours ago and I was still disappointed! Never again.”
