A man has been left heartbroken after tragically losing his wife during a crucial operation at Jummai Babangida Aliyu General Hospital, following an unexpected power outage and a lack of fuel for the hospital‘s backup generator.
The sorrowful event was brought to public attention through a series of emotional posts shared by the grieving husband on his Facebook page, where he narrated the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding his wife’s untimely death.
In one of the posts, he wrote, “Inna lillahi wa Inna lillahi rajiun. Kasaa. I just lost my wife,” expressing his profound grief and devastation.
He went on to give a detailed explanation of the incident: “Thirty-five minutes into my wife’s operation, NEPA took the light, and there was no fuel available for the theater generator at Jummai Babangida Aliyu General Hospital.”
He continued, “Minutes after the power cut, they brought fuel, but unfortunately, the generator refused to start. A mechanic had to be called in while my wife was still lying unconscious inside the operating theater.”
According to him, a nurse tried to calm him down, assuring him that the medical team had resorted to using alternative lighting sources such as a lamp or flashlight to continue the procedure. Meanwhile, the mechanic, upon discovering the severity of the problem, had to travel to Ogbomosho in Minna to purchase spare parts necessary to repair the generator.”
“An hour later, power was restored, but by then, the generator was still undergoing repairs. The operation continued under very challenging conditions. A surgery that was initially supposed to take about 90 minutes ended up dragging from 4 p.m. till after 7 p.m.,” he painfully recounted.
The emotional post quickly went viral, drawing widespread reactions from concerned individuals who flooded the comments section to offer their condolences, prayers, and express their outrage at the incident.

@mister_YB: “What sort of negligence is this for God's sake, how can a hospital depend solely on NEPA for a life-saving situation?”
@realYusufTukur: “Some happenings in Nigeria can only be imagined in fiction books & movies rather than in reality. May Allah forgive her shortcomings, have mercy upon her soul, and give him the fortitude to bear the loss. No amount of action, if any, can even reduce his pain.”
@Yusuf_A_J: “The worst stroke of pain will hit you when you get to know the ‘team’ that carried out the surgery. Definitely not even a junior reg.”
@_shebejnr: “Omoohh dead body go surplus for that hospital oooo, blood go flow. Tabdi… Make Nigeria no happen to any of us oooo.”
