A Nigerian man has raised concerns about his internet provider, accusing them of stealing his data after over 23GB vanished from his data balance in just 24 hours, despite only using his phone. The man, who shared his experience in a lengthy post on the popular social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), expressed frustration over his rapidly depleting data.
According to the man, he had subscribed to a data plan months ago, but over time, he noticed that his data was depleting at an alarming rate, despite not engaging in heavy data-consuming activities like streaming movies or using large amounts of data. In his posts, he explained his situation and questioned how such a large amount of data could vanish so quickly, stating:
“You are criminals!!!! Another update! I just checked my data usage on my laptop for the past 30 days! I only use my laptop and my phone — nothing else! My laptop has only used 19.83GB! Are you telling me I used over 290GB on my phone in February???”
In a separate post, he further lamented the situation, emphasizing that he hadn’t watched any movies or connected his MiFi to his laptop during the time frame, adding:
“Update!! I didn’t watch any movies, didn’t connect my MiFi to my laptop for anything! Just my phone!! Less than 24 hours and they are saying I’ve used over 23GB! You are robbers!!!!!”
As his posts began to gain attention online, many concerned individuals shared their thoughts in the comment section, expressing similar frustrations with their own internet providers and offering their opinions on the matter. Some reactions include:
@FlexxRichie: “🤣🤣 I also did 150GB sub two days ago after I exhausted the 300GB in less than 2 weeks. MTN is really draining our data intentionally.”
@Sageof_web3: “I’d advice even my enemy to use starlink, if you can’t afford to buy starlink, look for people around you that does and tell them you will pay them 20k or 15k a month so they will give you password, it will work definitely.”
@OG_BENZEMA_: “@MTNNG you are steadily stealing from us, watin we do una? You increase prices of data yet we can’t peacefully enjoy the worth of our data? Una dey mad?”
@fawunmiolamide: “I did 300GB on my HynetFlex on 15th February. As of today, I have 104GB. How did I consume 196GB in 2 weeks FFS? @MTNNG you guys have some explaining to do?”
@OdogwuAbia1: “No amount of tiktok or Instagram can zap data this much, it’s impossible, unless the person is watching YouTube videos on 1080p quality & above, even it’s still doubtful for 23GB to finish in less than 24hrs…. But it’s not MTN fault, this government imposed tariff on them, APC.”
@Rmdcrux: “Can be just get some people to follow this thing and do a class action against them. Pursue it at the industrial court, this social media stuff isn’t working. Mr Bosun no even talk anything.”
