A Nigerian man took to social media to publicly challenge a lawyer, accusing him of dishonesty and questioning the authenticity of his academic credentials. The man boldly offered a reward of ₦500,000 if the lawyer could prove he graduated with a first-class degree in Law (LLB), igniting a heated discussion online.
The incident played out on X (formerly Twitter), where user @joejonahni expressed his doubts, stating:
“I am putting out ₦500,000 for this lawyer if he can prove he has a first class in LLB. Lies on this app are too much. Everyone should tag him to collect free money.”
Despite several users informing @joejonahni that the lawyer did indeed graduate with first class honors, he remained unconvinced and demanded verifiable proof to back up the claim.
In a subsequent post, he clarified the nature of the verification he required:
“Just simple academic verification. His full names, what he graduated with, year of graduation, number of people with First class in same year. We will publish our findings here on X.”
Following some back-and-forth exchanges, the lawyer in question, @egi_nupe___, responded by providing concrete evidence confirming his first-class degree achievement.
Upon reviewing the proof, @joejonahni publicly congratulated the lawyer, sharing:
“Congratulations @egi_nupe___. This should be an encouragement to all our undergraduates. First class will always be a big deal, and people/firms will hold those who attain such a feat in high esteem.”
In a later update, @egi_nupe___ confirmed that he had received the ₦500,000 reward as promised, putting an end to the dispute and highlighting the importance of verifying information before making accusations online.
