The Niger State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly stabbing a police officer, Inspector Musa Nasiru, to death following a dispute over a woman.
According to reports, the suspect, identified as Alhaji Sabo Manigi, fatally attacked Inspector Nasiru in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State on February 4, 2025. The tragic incident has left the community in shock, as many struggle to come to terms with the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
Sources claim that the altercation stemmed from a romantic dispute involving the suspect’s son. It was alleged that the late Inspector Nasiru had married a woman whom Alhaji Sabo’s son had been deeply in love with, leading to a heated confrontation between the two men.
Reports suggest that prior to the marriage, the woman’s parents had given her the freedom to choose her spouse, and she had chosen Nasiru over the suspect’s son. This decision reportedly devastated the young man, who was said to have fainted multiple times upon hearing the news.
Following this, Alhaji Sabo allegedly confronted Inspector Nasiru while he was returning from work, accusing him of being responsible for his son’s emotional distress. Witnesses claim that the suspect openly threatened the officer, stating that he would take his life as revenge for his son’s heartbreak.
“At first, many thought he was joking, but he suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Nasiru,” a source revealed. “Nasiru was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, where doctors tried to save his life, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.”
Following the attack, law enforcement officers quickly intervened and arrested Alhaji Sabo. He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation and investigation into the matter.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure justice is served. Meanwhile, the tragic loss of Inspector Nasiru has left his colleagues, friends, and family in deep mourning.
