A young Nigerian man has taken to social media to express his disappointment and anger after a shocking response from a lady he generously helped with a cash gift. The man, identified as @ibukun_xi on popular social platform X, shared his experience in reaction to a trending conversation started by well-known content creator Layi Wasabi.
Layi Wasabi had sparked an engaging discussion by asking his followers to recount their most disappointing encounters with ungrateful people. His tweet read, “I know say heartbreak dey pain o but you don help ingrate before??” prompting numerous responses from social media users who had found themselves in similar situations.
Several users jumped into the conversation to narrate their own stories. One notable comment came from @_Ojonya, who disclosed, “Paid someone’s rent on here and she went ‘thanks.’ 😭” capturing the frustration many feel when their kind gestures are met with casual indifference.
Among the responses, @ibukun_xi recounted a personal experience where a lady reached out to him, pleading for financial help to settle a medication bill. According to his post, she needed N15,000 to complete a hospital bill of N27,000 for essential medication. Moved by compassion and without hesitation, he sent her the entire N15,000 she requested, hoping to ease her burden.

However, what followed left him dumbfounded. Rather than receiving a proper message of appreciation or a heartfelt thank you, the lady casually responded with just the single letter “T.” Confused by the cryptic message, @ibukun_xi asked her for clarification, only for her to reply with “Lol T for thanks,” an answer that stunned both him and those following the thread.

The story quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread conversations about entitlement, gratitude, and the increasing casualness with which people respond to acts of kindness. Many netizens flooded the comments section with humorous, sarcastic, and angry remarks, some even suggesting that the man should have tried to retrieve his money after receiving such an ungrateful response.
A social media user, @Silvah101, defended the lady, commenting, “Wetin y’all want make she talk again. Is ‘Thanks’ not enough 🙄🙄🙄🤦🏽♂️.” This opinion, however, did not sit well with others, who felt that when someone offers you significant help, a simple, well-thought-out thank you is the least you can do.
Another user, @hoylumeeday, humorously remarked, “I fit waste ₦500k on top Lawyer, Police report, Court order, EFCC, CBN just to retrieve back the ₦15k,” highlighting how irritating such ungrateful behavior can feel to those on the receiving end of it.
The incident has become one of the day’s most discussed stories online, prompting wider conversations about the state of gratitude and entitlement in modern social interactions, especially when money is involved. Many users have since advised others to be more selective with their generosity, stressing that good deeds are often taken for granted in today’s world.
