It will be recalled that Yusuf Alabi became an online sensation during the 2023 presidential campaign of Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, after an iconic photo of him kneeling in front of Obi’s campaign convoy went viral nationwide. Sadly, months after the election period, Yusuf found himself in serious trouble after being accused of theft and engaging in a physical altercation. The incident, which reportedly took place while Yusuf was returning home late at night from his workplace, involved him being attacked by suspected area boys before being handed over to law enforcement authorities.

The case, which quickly gained public attention on social media platforms, drew the interest of several human rights advocates, including Inibehe Effiong, who intervened in the matter to advocate for Yusuf’s release and a fair hearing in court. The development has since stirred conversations about the rights and safety of young people in Nigeria, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Providing an update on the matter via his official Facebook page, Effiong disclosed that Yusuf’s case, originally scheduled for hearing on April 28, 2025, has now been rescheduled to an earlier date following an application filed by his legal team and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to have the case heard urgently.

According to the activist, the court has granted their request to vary the initial date and has officially fixed a new hearing date for Thursday, April 17, 2025 at exactly 9:00 AM. Yusuf is expected to be produced by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service at the Apapa Magistrate Court, located at Orege, Ajegunle, specifically at the Sikiru Adagun Courthouse (Court No. 9).

“I am pleased to share that Quadri Alabi (as Yusuf is officially addressed in court records) is going be produced by the authorities of the Nigerian Correctional Service before the Court tomorrow by 9 AM.

His case was originally scheduled to come up before the court on 28th April, 2025. However, we wrote to the Court to vary the date and to fix the case for tomorrow, Thursday 17th April. The DPP equally made the same application.

I am delighted to confirm that the variation application has been granted and the hearing date has been officially moved forward as we prayed.

We will be with Quadri and his family tomorrow at the Apapa Magistrate Court, Orege, Ajegunle – Sikiru Adagun Courthouse (Court No. 9).

Further explanation about the reason for this development will be provided at the court premises tomorrow. History will vindicate the just.”
