A Nigerian woman working as a commercial bus driver in Lagos has cried out for help after she was allegedly assaulted by agberos (motor park touts) who attacked her for refusing to give them money.

The unfortunate incident came to light through a series of emotional posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @omoelerinjare, who documented the woman’s ordeal and shared videos showing her injuries and the damage to her vehicle.

The woman, who is a mother of two young children, explained that she solely depends on her transport business to feed and care for her kids. She revealed that her bus had been out of service for over two months due to serious engine and gear problems, leaving her without any source of income during that period.

According to her, she finally managed to repair the bus and decided to resume work. However, on that very first day back, at Mowe-Ibafo bus stop, she was confronted by agberos demanding money. She claimed she pleaded with them to allow her return from her trip first so she could settle them later, but they refused to listen.

Instead of showing understanding, the agberos allegedly pounced on her, physically assaulting her, flattening her tyre, and destroying parts of her vehicle. The woman, in her video, could be seen crying and showing the damaged bus parts, while also lamenting about the struggles faced by female drivers in Lagos who are constantly harassed and extorted.

In her own words: “See what agbero did to me this morning. They said I should give them money and I told them I will when I’m back. For over 2 months I didn’t work, my engine and gear have problems. I have two kids. This is the only way I make money.”

“They started to beat me at Mowe Ibafo, at the bus stop. They removed my car rubber. They’re cheating us, the women. They flattened my tyre. I am just trying to survive and take care of my children.”

The shocking incident has generated massive outrage across social media platforms, with many Nigerians condemning the attack and demanding justice for the woman. Many users highlighted the general problem of touts harassing transport operators in Lagos and called for immediate government intervention.
