A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to recount a rather surprising interaction she had with a man who assumed they were already in a relationship after just four days of casual conversation. The lady, identified on TikTok as @onlyonehiqmat, said the situation quickly became awkward when the man began calling her “babe,” a term she found premature and unwarranted given the short duration of their interaction.
According to her, she politely corrected him, asking why he had started using pet names when they hadn’t defined their relationship or even discussed being romantically involved. The man, however, did not take the correction lightly. In a voice note later sent to one of his friends — and shared by @onlyonehiqmat in her TikTok video — he expressed shock and irritation at her boundaries.
“Baby, whatsup?” the man recalled saying, only to be met with a question that threw him off balance: “Did you ask me out?” She challenged his assumption of intimacy, making it clear that four days of texting do not equate to being in a relationship. Rather than understanding her need for clarity and respect, the man grew visibly annoyed, telling his friend that she was “acting like a child.”
He continued to argue in the voice note that he believed the connection they shared over those few days was enough to consider her his “babe,” and he seemed genuinely offended that she wasn’t on the same page. His dramatic reaction was met with amusement and criticism by viewers who watched the TikTok post.
