A young Nigerian lady who was rescued by an American woman 12 years ago after being accused of witchcraft has successfully completed her studies, earning a National Diploma in Mass Communications.
The lady, identified as Uduak, was saved by Anja Ringgren Loven, a Danish aid worker residing in Akwa Ibom, after she was abandoned due to the allegations. Anja, who has dedicated her life to helping vulnerable children, took Uduak in and provided her with care, education, and a safe environment to grow.
Sharing an emotional update on her Facebook page, Anja expressed immense pride in Uduak’s achievement. She reminisced about the day she first met and rescued the young girl, highlighting how much she has grown over the years.
Anja wrote: “12 years ago, I embarked on my first rescue mission in Nigeria. It was a warm day, and I was eager to understand why children were being accused of witchcraft. After driving for hours to a local village, we searched for a young girl who had been abandoned. Suddenly, she came running toward me—barefoot, wearing a blue and white striped dress. That was the day we rescued Uduak.”
She went on to explain the special bond she shares with Uduak, noting that the young woman proudly introduces herself as her “first daughter” because she was the first girl Anja ever rescued.
“It is no secret that Uduak holds a special place in my heart. She has been under my wings for 12 years, and today, we celebrate her success. This year, she graduated with a National Diploma in Mass Communication,” Anja added.
She further praised Uduak for embracing her strengths and becoming a brilliant, powerful, and confident young woman. Anja ended her message with warm birthday wishes, expressing her love and admiration for her.
“Happy birthday, my first daughter. I love you always and forever.”
