A young lady has taken to social media to reveal that she made a life-altering decision to turn down an international scholarship opportunity due to her commitment to her boyfriend, who was unwilling to be in a long-distance relationship.
According to her, she had worked hard to secure the scholarship, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her education and career advancement. However, when she shared the news with her boyfriend, he expressed his strong disapproval, insisting that he wouldn’t be able to handle a long-distance relationship. Torn between her dreams and her relationship, she ultimately chose to stay back to preserve their bond.
She shared her story in a post on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that just a week after she sacrificed her scholarship for the sake of their love, she discovered that her boyfriend had cheated on her.
Expressing her frustration and regret, she wrote: “The bar is so low. I missed out on an international scholarship because he said he couldn’t do long distance. (He cheated on me a week after) 🙂↕️ I even lied at home, saying I didn’t get the scholarship. 😭💔”
Her story quickly went viral, garnering thousands of reactions from users on the platform. Many sympathized with her, while others criticized her for prioritizing a relationship over a significant academic and career opportunity.

@jayden_drews: “I’m all for sticking by your man, but not in situations like this. Always choose skolo over monna. Ka gore rena will dribble you and some gents won’t care that you let go of an opportunity like that for him.”
@boo_bonnet: “Please come to me next time ☹️😭…I was in a similar situation & my love at the time told me that he couldn’t do long distance BUT that he’d still break up with me if I stayed because he can’t be with someone ‘o dom’. I had no choice but to leave SA & I’m forever grateful.”
@coffeebagging: “Youth is the time for life lessons. Better now than later. There are women in their 40s passing on opportunities because of men. That will never be you now.”
