PRESS RELEASE

16TH MAY 2025.

POLICE COMMENCE INVESTIGATION INTO THE DEATH OF EMMANUELLA AHENJIR

On 16/5/2025 at about 4am, a radio message was received from a police team deployed at Duku park, Wurukum, stating that they had flagged down a vehicle coming from the Benuelinks area. However, the driver allegedly turned back, drove through the opposite lane, and shot sporadically at the officers. In response, the police fired a shot and the vehicle fled.

The vehicle was pursued, and at around 10am, the police received information that a lady named Emmanuella Ahenjir, a student of the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, had died from a gunshot wound at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

Upon arriving at the hospital, detectives were briefed about the deceased, and her body was deposited at the morgue for autopsy. One Apase Keghter, an occupant of the vehicle, was found at the hospital and taken in for questioning.

Mr. Apase revealed that they had attended a club event at Newcastle Event Centre and were returning when they used the wrong lane and passed a police checkpoint without stopping. He stated that contrary to the police report, they did not fire at the officers. The police opened fire on them, and they managed to get to Welfare Quarters before noticing a flat tyre. They then took the victim to the hospital using a commercial vehicle.

He added that his belongings, the car used in the incident, and the other occupants of the vehicle could not be found at the moment.

CP. Emenari Ifeanyi PhD., psc., mnips, has ordered a full investigation into the matter. He has assured the public, including friends and family of the deceased, of his commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice is served in line with the rule of law.
