A Nigerian man has been detained by the police following a tragic and shocking incident where a lady who came to visit him and spent the night at his house was found dead the next morning.
This unfortunate incident was shared in a post on a popular social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), where it quickly gained attention and sparked widespread discussion online.
The post was made by a user identified as @itsleeswhag, who disclosed that the man in question is his distant cousin. According to him, his cousin is currently in police custody and has been detained for over a month as investigations continue into the mysterious death of the young woman.
Providing more details, @itsleeswhag narrated that his cousin had invited the lady over to his house, where she agreed to spend the night. Shockingly, when he woke up the following morning, he discovered that she had passed away in her sleep. Alarmed and distraught, he immediately alerted the authorities, but the situation quickly escalated, leading to his arrest and detention.
In his words: “My distant cousin has been in police detention for over a month now because a woman came over to his place to spend the night and he woke up the next day to discover that the lady is dead.”
He further mentioned that he personally suggested an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death and clear his cousin’s name. However, he revealed that the lady’s family has yet to give their consent or provide feedback regarding the proposal for an autopsy. This delay has contributed to the ongoing detention of his cousin, leaving him in a state of uncertainty and fear for his future.
He added: “I suggested the autopsy too, we haven’t gotten a feedback from the lady’s family.”
As soon as the story surfaced online, many concerned individuals flocked to the comment section of the post to express their thoughts and share legal advice. Some sympathized with the detained man and emphasized the importance of a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served fairly to all parties involved.
See some reactions below:
@Jeffosky1: “This is serious. It’s sad that the circumstances point to your cousin as a suspect but in grounding an action for manslaughter, there must be a nexus b/w the mens rea (intention) & actus reus (the wrongful act). The result of the autopsy is also important to prove cause of death.”
@Olori_Seun1: “He needs a very good lawyer and AUTOPSY has to be done and make una pray well well say no be suffocation.”
@OlanmaDiamond: “Why haven’t police carried out autopsy, to know the cause of her death and stop tormenting him?”
@D_Ministar: “The prosecution would need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he caused the death intentionally or through negligence. A good criminal defense lawyer should be able to challenge this and either secure bail or push for the case to move forward properly through the courts.”
@Adx0G: “The law said he will do jail except he has concrete evidence that he doesn’t have a hand in it or he should get a good lawyer and autopsy should be done on the dead body.”
@Misturrah: “This is one thing I fear the most because how will he explain it 🤦🏾♀️ in a sane country proper investigation would be done.”
