A Nigerian lady has raised alarm on social media after she, her mother, and her sister were reportedly arrested and detained by officers of the Nigerian police force, accusing the officers involved of violent assault, illegal detention, and theft of personal property.
The disturbing incident was brought to light through a series of emotional posts shared by the affected lady on X (formerly Twitter), where she is identified as @introvert_birdy. In her viral thread, she recounted the harrowing experience, calling on Nigerians, human rights organizations, and media outlets to amplify her voice and demand justice.
According to her testimony, the incident occurred when police officers invaded their residence without a warrant and forcefully took her, her mother, her sister, and two of their neighbors into custody. She revealed that her phone was stolen during the operation and further alleged that upon arriving at the police station, her sister was physically assaulted again by the officers in full view of others.
Expressing her anguish in real-time updates, the lady wrote:
“I was just brutalized in my own home! Police stole my phone! Beaten in my own home!”
“Police! They are thieves! They treated me like a criminal! Nigerian police! Maggots!”
“We got to the station and my sister was still beaten to a pulp! In the police station! I’ve been detained in a cell with my mum and sister!”
