According to her account, the altercation began after a misunderstanding regarding the fare she was supposed to pay. She claimed that despite paying more than the agreed amount, the driver allegedly demanded extra money, leading to a heated exchange that turned physical.

The driver, on the other hand, has vehemently denied the allegations, stating that he was the real victim in the situation. He claims that the lady misrepresented the incident, painting herself as the victim while omitting crucial details that would provide context to the dispute.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady explained that she had booked an inDrive ride from her house to a location called Midas. However, she later discovered that Midas had two branches, and the driver initially dropped her off at the wrong location before taking her to the correct one.

She alleged that the agreed fare for the trip was ₦6,500, but she chose to pay ₦8,000 out of generosity. However, she claimed that the driver was not satisfied and demanded more money, which she refused to give.

According to her, when she declined to pay extra, the driver got aggressive, physically assaulted her, and made threatening remarks as he left.

She narrated:

“I took an inDrive this afternoon from my house to Midas. Apparently, Midas has two locations, so he took me to the wrong one before heading to the correct location. The original ride was ₦6,500, and I paid him ₦8,000, yet he assaulted me.”

“He wanted even more money, and I told him the fare wouldn’t exceed ₦10,000 even if I had booked it directly to the final location. I walked away, and he got down from his car, yanked my bag, broke the strap, and even whipped me with it. He would have beaten me up if some men hadn’t intervened to hold him back.”

“Then, as he was finally leaving, he told me he knew my house and warned that I hadn’t seen the last of him.”

She also posted screenshots of her payment receipt and photos of the driver, warning others to be cautious when using inDrive.

“Payment receipt, yet he was whipping me like I stole from him. Bastard. Look at his face—he looks like an abomination. I messed up by not paying attention before I accepted.”

The driver’s response:

Shortly after the post gained traction, the accused driver responded, refuting her claims and offering his own version of the incident.

He wrote:

“So I am the driver you’re referring to. It’s unfortunate that you’re playing the victim while telling a different story. I see people believing you without verifying the facts, but I’m not surprised—that’s what you ladies do.”

“She didn’t mention that I took her to two different locations, which took more time and increased the fare. She also didn’t say that she was the one who yanked her sunglasses from me, hit me with her bag, and even slapped me.”

“If I truly assaulted her, do you think I would still be out here? I would have been arrested by now.”

Social Media Reactions

The incident has triggered a wave of mixed reactions on social media. While some users sympathized with the lady and called for action against the driver, others argued that the situation needed to be properly investigated before drawing conclusions.

See some reactions below:

@zizibutterfly: “OMG, I’m so sorry, Sewa. What a dweeb of a man. @inDrive, your entire company seems to be a perfect mix of incompetence and lack of accountability. Every day, there’s a new complaint about your drivers, but you don’t appear to take any responsibility or make any effort to improve?”

@Iamwhykayy: “INDRIVE DO SOMETHING! Must your drivers threaten and beat people every day? Are you not bothered about your reputation? @inDrive Forget Ads, we see what is happening!”

@AyobamiAje29818: “The ride was 6,500 and you paid 8k? Why? Were you being generous, or is there something you are not telling us?”

@belloayodele6: “Everyone is just blaming the guy because she spoke out first. But we should listen to the guy too before judging. I have had a personal experience as a driver—someone booked a ride, I got to her pick-up location, and then on the way to Gbagada, she suddenly said, ‘this is not where I’m going.’”

@terhemen__: “Omo, I just know I can never use this app. That’s how another driver was stalking that babe the other day.”

@banktexdaviper: “I no believe you. Women can’t be trusted. I have witnessed something like this many times, but when we take proper steps to ask people at the scene, the story is always different.”
