A Nigerian graduate has sparked widespread discussion online after expressing frustration over his financial struggles despite spending 15 years acquiring multiple certificates. In a viral video, he openly considered venturing into yahoo (internet fraud) as a means of survival after failing to earn a single naira from his academic qualifications.
This revelation was contained in a post he shared on his Tiktok page, where he lamented the harsh realities of unemployment and financial instability in Nigeria.
In the video, the man could be seen holding up his numerous certificates while venting about the state of the country and how his academic efforts had not yielded any financial benefits.
According to him, after spending over 15 years in school and enduring all the hardships that come with higher education, his qualifications have yet to bring him even ₦1 in earnings.
Expressing his frustration, he stated: “Guys, this is it, over 15 years of going to school, 15 years of hard labor, these fucking results have not fetched me 1 naira.”
He went further to highlight the financial struggles of many graduates in Nigeria, stating that even those earning ₦300k to ₦500k per month are still struggling to make ends meet, particularly in cities like Lagos, where the cost of living is extremely high.
“A graduate can’t boast of ₦100k in his account. Even as a man, if you’re earning ₦300k a month, it’s not enough for you to start a family, not even ₦500k a month. ₦500k is not enough to rent a house in Lagos. There are places where you can’t rent a house for ₦500k,” he lamented.
The graduate further questioned how someone earning ₦500k per month could afford to build a house for himself. He also pointed out the harsh salary realities in Nigeria, saying that if he were to search for a job in Ikorodu, he would likely be offered only ₦30k per month, which is barely enough to cover basic expenses.
“If I go in search of a job in Ikorodu, I’ll be offered ₦30k while a pack of spaghetti is over ₦20k. Deduct this from the ₦30k salary,” he said.
“From it, you’ll save for rent, you’ll buy clothes, you’ll freshen up.”
He went on to reveal that after receiving numerous comments on his post suggesting that he should consider engaging in internet fraud (yahoo), he was beginning to consider the idea, given his frustration with the system.
As the post made its way across social media, it attracted a flood of reactions, with many people sharing their opinions on the matter.
