A Nigerian graduate, Umuir Adatullah, has taken to social media to clarify misconceptions surrounding her age after her wedding photos went viral, sparking widespread reactions and debates online.
The images, which gained significant traction across various platforms, led to speculation that she was either a minor being forced into marriage or had been used as collateral in an undisclosed arrangement. These claims triggered intense discussions, with many questioning the legitimacy of the union and expressing concerns over her perceived youthful appearance.
In a firm response to these allegations, Adatullah released a statement addressing the controversy. She dismissed all false assumptions and attributed the misunderstanding solely to her petite stature. She emphasized that physical appearance should not be used as a basis to judge a person’s age or life choices.
To further support her statement, Adatullah shared a graduation photo from her convocation ceremony at Lagos State University (LASU), which she attended in 2023. The image, posted on her official TikTok account @umuiradatullah2, serves as proof that she is not underage, as some netizens had claimed.
Speaking in a video response, she said:
“This is a clarity video about my wedding picture. Some people assumed I am underage and not up to 18 years. According to Nigeria’s constitution, 18 years is an adult, and I’m not 18, 20, or even 25. I am a graduate, and my stature shouldn’t be a barrier to achieving my goals. I am not underage. I was not used as collateral or loan because some people commented like that.”
Her statement has since garnered support from several social media users who commended her courage and confidence in addressing the situation. Many praised her for taking control of the narrative and shutting down false reports before they could spread further.
