A video currently making waves on X (formerly Twitter) has captured a dramatic moment inside a lecture hall at Ekiti State University (EKSU), where a lecturer took an unusual step by calling a student’s parent during a lecture session to report her behavior.
The viral footage shows the lecturer standing before the class alongside the female student, who appears to have been singled out for an undisclosed issue. As the situation unfolds, the lecturer requests the student’s phone, and she reluctantly hands it over.
In a matter of seconds, the lecturer dials a contact from the student’s phone and begins a conversation with the student’s family. Initially, the call is answered by the student’s sister, but the lecturer insists on speaking with their parent instead.
During the phone call, the lecturer can be heard saying:
“Hello, good morning, ma. I’m calling on behalf of Akeem Mosunmola. Do you know her?”
“I’m one of her lecturers. Are you the one sponsoring her education in EKSU? If your father is with you, I’d like to speak with him. I need to report her.”
The rest of the class watches in stunned silence, with some students murmuring in the background, indicating mixed reactions to the lecturer’s approach.
After the video surfaced online, it sparked a heated debate among netizens, with many taking to the comment section to express their opinions.
See some reactions below:
@flowzki: “This makes no sense tbh… Schooling in this country is being ruined daily by lecturers who think their job is more than just teaching. This isn’t secondary school; it’s a university. None of this makes any sense.”
@KinqKudos: “Some students think university is a social club until reality hits. That lecturer did the right thing by informing the girl’s parents. If you’re not serious about school, at least let your sponsors know so they can invest in something else!”
@theonlyolamide: “She’s a good lecturer who genuinely cares about her students’ success. Some lecturers don’t even bother about why you come to school; they just mind their business and wait for their salary. If you like, don’t attend class.”
@Unknownmike11: “If all lecturers were this concerned about their students’ academic progress, things would be much better. Many lecturers don’t care at all.”
@chababy81: “You can’t try that with me. This is exactly why some students don’t respect their lecturers—they do too much. Can you imagine?”
@NikkiMary278018: “😔 It must’ve been such an uncomfortable and stressful situation for everyone involved.”
@sulucious: “She did the right thing because if she had taken matters into her own hands, people would say she was being too harsh. Reporting to the family was the best decision.”
@Bossman9_: “She could have counseled the student privately first. If that didn’t work, then she could have invited the parents over. Calling them in front of everyone is embarrassing and discouraging.”
