A driver has been left in a critical condition after his car somersaulted multiple times in a terrifying accident caused by a struggle with a police officer. The officer allegedly grabbed the steering wheel while the vehicle was in motion, leading to the crash.
In addition to causing the accident, the officer reportedly seized the driver’s mobile phone and took ₦100,000 from him before the tragic event unfolded.
This shocking incident was captured in a viral video that has been widely circulated on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The footage has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many condemning the police for their alleged misconduct and abuse of power.
In the video, a man believed to be the driver could be heard crying out in distress, expressing his frustration over repeated harassment by law enforcement officers. His voice, weak and filled with pain, highlights the severity of the situation and the trauma he has endured.
The video also shows the driver lying on the ground after being pulled from the wreckage, while the officer involved in the altercation is seen being helped out of the damaged vehicle. The gravity of the crash and the injuries sustained by those involved have drawn widespread attention.
Struggling to speak due to his injuries, the driver lamented:
“This is not the first time they are harassing me. Every time, they find a way to harass me. The police have killed me! Every day, they collect money from me. They took ₦100,000 and my phone. This is not even the third time.”
As the video gained traction online, social media users expressed their outrage, calling for justice and immediate action against the officer involved. Many emphasized the need for systemic reforms to prevent such incidents from recurring.
