In a deeply emotional display, passionate fans have flooded the streets of Uganda to mourn the sudden and tragic death of Liverpool star forward, Diogo Jota, who recently lost his life in a devastating car accident in Spain.
The heartbreaking tribute was shared via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by user @SIKAOFFICIAL1, accompanied by a video that captured a large crowd of Ugandan supporters marching, holding banners and wearing Liverpool jerseys as they honored the late footballer.
Jota, aged 28, passed away alongside his younger brother, André Silva, who was just 25 years old. Both brothers were reported to have died in the early hours of Thursday morning after their vehicle crashed while returning from a family gathering.
Reports confirm that Jota and André were laid to rest in their hometown in Portugal, where a private funeral ceremony was held, attended by grieving family members, close friends, fellow teammates, and loyal supporters.
In Uganda, fans decided to organize a street procession to celebrate Jota’s life and achievements on and off the pitch. The crowd, singing songs and waving Liverpool flags, reflected the wide-reaching impact and love Jota inspired among football enthusiasts far beyond Europe.
The emotional video sparked reactions from fans worldwide, with many flooding the comment section to share their grief, offer condolences to the family, and recount their favorite moments of Jota’s football career.

@hotkaga: “Africans can tell each other apart. 3 seconds into the video I knew that wasn’t Nigeria. And no die-hard Liverpool supporters in Nigeria. It’s the home of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man U.”
@christhiney18: “Some of you folks with big accounts are the most unreasonable set of people on this app. Spreading fake information here and there just to get engagements. Well, Nigeria being the Greatest of all can only get the progress you seek though.”
@igbinhenry: “It can only be Ugandan doing this 💩 wetin concern Naija with all this kind thing lol.”
@akodotbadoo: “See wetin Ronaldo dey talk, how is this mourning like this. The only thing related to Jota here is the banner; the other thing is just fun.”
