Manchester City are reportedly prepared to part ways with long-serving midfielder and club legend Ilkay Gundogan, with Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray expressing a strong interest in signing the veteran player this summer.
According to a report from The Guardian, Galatasaray are in the early stages of planning a move for the 34-year-old midfielder, who remains under contract with City until 2026. His current deal was automatically extended last season due to an appearance-based clause that triggered a one-year extension.
Despite being under contract, Gundogan is likely to see his playing time significantly reduced in the upcoming 2025/26 season under manager Pep Guardiola. City have bolstered their midfield options heavily in recent months, indicating a shift in focus toward younger and more dynamic talents.
This summer, City added Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and French playmaker Rayan Cherki to their squad, while Spanish talent Nico Gonzalez arrived in January. Additionally, the return of experienced Croatian international Mateo Kovacic from injury, along with star defensive midfielder Rodri’s recovery from an ACL injury, means Gundogan faces stiff competition for minutes on the pitch.
The German international of Turkish descent is reportedly seeking more regular playing time and is open to the idea of a new challenge in the Turkish Super Lig, especially with Galatasaray offering him an opportunity to play a key role in their squad.
