A deeply tragic event has unfolded in Mokwa, a town located in Niger State, Nigeria, where a woman has suffered an unimaginable loss due to a powerful and deadly flood that recently swept through the region.
According to reports shared widely on social media, particularly on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the woman lost a total of thirteen family members. These included her husband, her seven children, her co-wife, and her co-wife’s four children, all of whom were tragically claimed by the floodwaters.
The story was brought to public attention by social media user @__Meeram, who posted a video of the grieving woman recounting her sorrowful experience. Despite the overwhelming grief, the woman spoke with an incredible sense of acceptance, saying that everything that happened was “the will of God.”
She is now the sole survivor from her extended family unit of 14 people. According to eyewitnesses and online reports, her life was spared only due to the timely and brave intervention of local rescuers who pulled her to safety during the chaos of the flood.
This personal tragedy is only one of many resulting from the devastating flooding that has ravaged parts of Niger State. Government sources have confirmed that the Mokwa flood, which occurred on May 29, has claimed the lives of at least 153 individuals, with many others still missing or displaced.
The heartbreaking video clip continues to circulate on social media as Nigerians mourn and call for greater attention to flood management and disaster response systems across the country.
