Embattled Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has officially confirmed the unfortunate attack on her family residence by unknown gunmen in the early hours of Thursday, April 17th, 2025.
Earlier reports from Gistreel detailed how armed assailants wielding firearms and cutlasses launched an assault on the Senator’s family house located in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State. The attackers, reportedly believing the Senator was present at the location, vandalized parts of the property and created panic within the community.
According to intelligence sources, the Chief Security Officer to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, Yakubu Ovanja, quickly notified relevant security authorities about the incident shortly after it began. The assault, which occurred around 1:00 a.m., saw at least three armed individuals storm the property, shattering window panes and attempting to breach the building’s security.
In an official statement issued via an exclusive interview with Naija News on Thursday, Natasha’s Chief Press Secretary, Arogbonlo Israel, expressed strong condemnation of the incident.
“We vehemently condemn the brazen and cowardly attack on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s family house in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State, which took place on Tuesday, April 15. The armed men, apparently under the false impression that the Senator was in town, vandalized window panes in her grandfather’s residence. Thanks to the swift response of security operatives and vigilant community members, the attackers were repelled without any injuries reported,” the statement read.
Israel further alleged that the calculated nature of the attack was a direct retaliation against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment. “We urge the Inspector General of Police to urgently reinstate her full security details to prevent further attempts at intimidation and harm,” he added.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan herself recounted the incident in her remarks, stating: “Two days ago, my younger brother accompanied some contractors to our hometown in Ihima to inspect locations for new development projects I attracted to my senatorial district. Apparently, word spread that I was the one visiting, which led to this misguided and violent assault on my family house that night. Thankfully, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel, alongside brave community members, acted quickly and chased the attackers away. The matter was reported at the area police command, and by God’s grace, no lives were lost.”
The Senator’s camp called on members of the public to stay calm and remain supportive of her unwavering commitment to justice and the welfare of her constituents. “Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s courage in confronting oppression and injustice should not be rewarded with threats, violence, or attempts to silence her voice. We will not relent until justice is served,” the statement concluded.
