Senate President Godswill Akpabio has strongly denied the sexual harassment allegations brought against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the claims as baseless and untrue.

The controversy began after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of making persistent and inappropriate sexual advances toward her. According to her, Akpabio’s hostility toward her in political affairs was a direct consequence of her refusal to give in to his alleged advances, both within Nigeria and during international engagements.

During a Senate plenary session on the morning of March 5, 2025, Senator Akpabio addressed the allegations head-on, vehemently denying any wrongdoing and expressing disappointment over the accusations.

In his defense, Akpabio stated:

“At no time did I ever harass any woman. I was raised very well by my late single mother, and I have always upheld respect for women. I was even awarded the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”

The Senate President further revealed that since the allegations surfaced, his phone has been inundated with calls from concerned individuals seeking clarification on the matter. He urged the media and the public to exercise caution and allow due process to take its course rather than jumping to conclusions.

Akpabio also emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, calling on media outlets to avoid sensationalism and to report only verified information. He maintained that he remains committed to upholding ethical standards in public service and respecting the rights and dignity of women.

The unfolding situation has continued to generate reactions across various political and social circles, with many awaiting further developments on the matter.
