Workers engaged in the ongoing construction project at the Rivers State House of Assembly site have reportedly stopped all activities in protest of the inadequate daily wages they are receiving, demanding an increase above the current ₦4,000 daily pay rate.

This development was brought to public attention through a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE. The footage shows a large group of workers gathered just outside the assembly complex, collectively refusing to resume construction work until their grievances are addressed and they are given the opportunity to meet directly with the engineers managing the project.

In the video, the workers can be seen vocally protesting, chanting their demands, and expressing their refusal to continue the construction under the current wage conditions. Their determination to hold out for better pay is clear as they stand united in their protest.

According to the accompanying post, the engineers overseeing the project have so far refused to meet the workers in person, opting instead to send a representative. This gesture was rejected by the workers, who insist on direct dialogue with the engineers themselves before they consider resuming their duties.

The person filming the video provided commentary on the situation, explaining, “They’re protesting. They said they’re not working because of the low wages. They’re being paid ₦4,000 daily for the project. The engineers are not responding. House of Assembly, Rivers State, Port Harcourt.”

He further added, “Workers say they’re not working. They’re tired.” The fatigue and frustration among the workers over the low wages and lack of proper communication are evident.

Since the video began circulating online, it has generated significant reactions from social media users and concerned citizens alike. Many took to the comments section to share their opinions, critiques, and support for the workers' cause.
