Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have successfully apprehended two young men suspected of stealing a Mikano generator battery from a church in Yola, in what has been described as a swift and coordinated operation.
The arrested suspects, named Dad Yusuf and Gibson Husseini, are both residents of Upper Luggere in the Jimeta area of Yola North Local Government Area. The duo was arrested by officers attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID), following an intensive investigation and surveillance.
According to official police reports, the suspects broke into the LCCN Cathedral in Jimeta at around 11:00 p.m. on June 23, 2025. Under the cover of darkness, they managed to remove and steal a 100Ah Mikano generator battery, which is essential for powering the church’s electrical equipment and services.
After the incident was reported, the police immediately launched a manhunt and worked tirelessly to track down those responsible. Their efforts paid off when the suspects were finally arrested on June 28, just five days after the crime was committed.
During interrogation, both Yusuf and Husseini confessed to the crime, admitting their roles in the theft and providing useful information that has aided the ongoing investigation. The confession has also led authorities to explore the possibility of other accomplices being involved in the operation.
The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement released to the media. He emphasized that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all places of worship and public institutions in the state.
Nguroje further revealed that efforts are underway to recover the stolen battery and any other property that may have been taken in similar incidents. He assured the public that justice would be served, and that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded and all necessary evidence is compiled.
The arrest has been praised by residents and community leaders, who expressed relief and commended the police for their prompt response in addressing crimes targeting religious institutions.
