    Peter Obi One-Term Presidency Proposal

Yunusa Tanko, who serves as the national coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, has disclosed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, has officially presented his one-term presidency proposal to the newly formed coalition for their thorough review and consideration.

Peter Obi publicly declared on Monday that he is fully committed to serving only a single four-year term if he is elected president in 2027.

He firmly stated that any candidate from the southern region who wins the presidential election should respect the unwritten principle of power rotation and zoning by stepping down from office by May 28, 2031. According to Obi, this approach will promote fairness, national unity, and a sense of belonging among all regions of Nigeria.

In his quest to unseat the incumbent President Bola Tinubu and weaken the influence of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Obi has formed a strong alliance with several key political figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai. This strategic partnership aims to create a united front capable of challenging the current administration effectively.

The coalition has chosen to operate under the umbrella of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which will serve as the platform for their collective political activities and upcoming electoral contest.

While addressing attendees at a traditional chieftaincy event in Gombe State, Tanko explained that Obi’s one-term presidency proposal had already been formally presented to coalition leaders. He mentioned that discussions are ongoing among members, and they will collectively determine whether to adopt this plan as part of their official campaign strategy.

Tanko expressed strong confidence in Obi’s character and sincerity, describing him as a leader with unquestionable integrity who is truly dedicated to the welfare of the nation. He emphasized that Obi’s readiness to serve only one term is a testament to his selflessness and commitment to genuine national transformation.

Although the Nigerian constitution does not mandate a one-term presidency, Obi strongly believes that a four-year period is adequate to implement his comprehensive policy agenda and set the country on the right developmental path.

Tanko also highlighted some of Obi’s key priorities, including resolving the electricity crisis, which Obi believes is fundamental to addressing numerous socio-economic challenges faced by the country. According to Obi, stable electricity will unlock massive economic growth and improve quality of life for millions of Nigerians.

Additionally, Obi has pledged to revive Nigeria’s economy to such an extent that the country will regain its status as a major exporter of goods and services. He envisions a future where Nigerian airports are bustling with activity and aircraft no longer leave the country empty, reflecting a revitalized and thriving economy.
