Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has officially launched an online registration portal along with identity cards for members of his Obidient Movement, both within Nigeria and across the global diaspora. This move is aimed at enhancing the movement’s organizational structure and fostering a sense of unity among its supporters worldwide.
The announcement of this development was made on Saturday through a joint statement issued by the movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, and the Director of Strategic Communications and Media, Nana Kazaure. The new system is set to streamline the way Obidients register and identify themselves, providing a more formal and unified approach to membership in the movement.
According to the statement, each identity card issued to members will feature a unique QR code for authentication purposes. In addition, the card will prominently display the flag of the holder’s country of residence, ensuring a strong sense of diversity and camaraderie within the movement. This international recognition emphasizes the movement’s global reach and the importance of unity among members, regardless of their geographical location.
The statement elaborated, saying, “Obidient registration portal supports Nigerians and fellow Obidients living in the diaspora. You will observe that the ID has a flag on it. For example, if you’re not resident in Nigeria, the top right-hand corner will carry the flag of your country of residence.” This feature aims to visually represent the global nature of the Obidient Movement, with members from all corners of the world coming together under the same cause.
Furthermore, the identity cards will all begin with the same prefix, “OBX,” regardless of where the holder is based. The QR code, which will be placed in the bottom right-hand corner of each card, will serve as a key verification tool, enabling users to authenticate a member’s identity simply by scanning it with a smartphone or QR scanner. This will add an extra layer of transparency and security for both members and those wishing to engage with them. The statement noted, “So if you choose to support or do business with an Obidient, you can scan the QR code or verify the OBX ID online to confirm that the person is who and what they truly say they are.”
The launch of the online registration portal and the accompanying identity cards represents a significant milestone for the Obidient Movement. It strengthens the operational framework of the movement, both domestically and internationally, providing members with a more formalized means of identification and engagement. With these tools in place, the movement is poised to grow stronger and more organized, fostering greater collaboration and unity among its members.
