The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly stated that the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, has no realistic chance of winning elections in Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview with TVC News, Wike took the opportunity to criticize Peter Obi, describing him as a "social media politician" who, in his view, lacks the political depth necessary to succeed in Nigerian elections. Wike emphasized that, despite Obi's presence on social media, he simply does not have what it takes to win elections in Nigeria, a country with a complex political landscape.
Wike further explained that, in politics, there is no single person who can be singled out as the “best” candidate, as Nigerian politics involves multiple layers of complexity and factors that can influence election outcomes. He pointed to the victory of President Tinubu, suggesting that although the process was highly challenging, with the ruling party’s administration facing a lot of internal turbulence, Tinubu's eventual success shows the unpredictable nature of Nigerian politics. Wike also noted that many people, including those within Tinubu’s own party, were reluctant to speak the truth about the difficulties involved in his path to victory.
According to Wike, however, the ultimate reason for Tinubu's success lies in his understanding of the political landscape and, as Wike put it, “God is on his side.” The minister’s statement underscores his belief in Tinubu’s political savvy and his ability to navigate the complexities of Nigerian politics.
