As Nigerian workers across the nation join the global celebration of International Workers’ Day, popularly known as May Day, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has issued a heartfelt message reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and protection of Nigerian workers.
In his goodwill message commemorating the historic day, Senator Akpabio stated emphatically that no Nigerian worker will be victimized under his watch, either for demanding their rights or seeking redress through lawful means. He emphasized that every worker deserves respect, dignity, and a fair platform to air their grievances without fear.
The Senate President’s message was delivered via a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, in which he praised the incredible resilience, hard work, and commitment of Nigerian workers despite persistent economic and social challenges.
He acknowledged their vital role in the country’s economic development and national growth, noting that workers have remained dedicated and productive even in the face of adversity.
“Today, as we mark Workers’ Day, we celebrate the labor, resilience, and dedication of Nigerian workers. You are the true engine of our economy and society,” Senator Akpabio remarked.
He went further to assure the nation’s workforce that the 10th National Assembly, in collaboration with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, will not only continue to respect and defend workers’ rights but will also roll out labor-friendly policies aimed at improving working conditions, enhancing welfare, and ensuring equitable treatment across all sectors.
“We will continue to work closely with the Executive arm of government to enact policies and pass legislation that uplift workers’ standards of living, protect their interests, and promote industrial harmony,” he added.
Senator Akpabio described Nigerian workers as the pride of the nation, emphasizing that their labor underpins the foundation of the country’s success and advancement.
He further encouraged the workforce to remain steadfast and hopeful, reiterating that their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed and their voices will always be heard in the corridors of power.
“Despite economic challenges, your resilience and determination keep our nation moving forward. You have shown strength and patriotism in the face of adversity. We acknowledge and deeply appreciate your service to our dear country,” the Senate President declared.
