This development was disclosed in an official report shared via the board’s official handle, @JAMBHQ, which addressed growing concerns from candidates and the public. The decision to retake the examination follows widespread public outcry regarding the unusually low scores recorded by many candidates in the just-concluded UTME. The glitches reportedly impacted several test centers, causing significant disruption during the exam.

In response to the backlash and mounting pressure, JAMB acknowledged the complaints from candidates and promised to investigate the matter thoroughly. The board reassured the public that corrective measures would be implemented to ensure fairness and transparency.

Shortly after, during a press conference held in Abuja, the JAMB Registrar confirmed that several centers had been affected by various technical issues. These issues, ranging from computer malfunctions to other technical failures, directly impacted candidates’ performance, resulting in low scores that did not accurately reflect their capabilities.

To address the situation, the board issued an official statement via its social media page, directing all affected candidates to reprint their examination slips from May 16 to receive details of the new exam date and time. This move was made to ensure that those who were impacted by the technical problems would have the opportunity to retake the exam under fair conditions.

The statement released by JAMB read in part: “Man proposes, God disposes! It has been established that a technical glitch affected 157 centres out of the 887 centres in the 2025 UTME. This was basically responsible for the general low performance of the candidates scheduled to sit the examination in those centres.”

“As such, all the affected candidates will be contacted to reprint their examination slips towards retaking their examinations starting from 16th May, 2025.” The board further assured that they would work diligently to ensure a smoother process for the upcoming retake and to avoid any further complications.
