The Dangote Petrochemicals Refinery has quietly implemented a strategic reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), cutting the cost by ₦10 and thereby easing the financial burden on petrol marketers and consumers alike.

As per recent reports, this adjustment sees the effective price of PMS decrease from the earlier rate of ₦835 per litre to a new price of ₦825 per litre, marking a significant development in Nigeria’s fuel distribution market.

According to Punch, insiders familiar with the internal pricing mechanisms at Dangote Refinery confirmed that the reduction comes in the form of a rebate, rather than an outright price drop. “The Dangote refinery has started offering a rebate on its petroleum products. While the purchase price is still technically ₦835 per litre, marketers receive a ₦10 refund after the loading process is completed,” a reliable source disclosed.

Though no official public announcement has been made by the refinery, this internal price modification has already started to impact retail prices. Petrol marketers who source directly from the Dangote facility are now reportedly able to sell PMS at prices ranging between ₦830 and ₦835 per litre, creating a subtle but important price advantage over competitors who rely on imported fuel or private depot supplies.

This rebate strategy adds to a series of recent price adjustments made by the refinery. Notably, in April, Dangote slashed its gantry price twice in quick succession — first from ₦880 to ₦850, and then to ₦835 per litre — amounting to a cumulative ₦45 reduction within a single week. These moves signal the refinery’s intention to remain competitive and responsive to market pressures.

With Nigeria continuing to navigate complex fuel pricing dynamics and subsidy challenges, Dangote’s latest initiative may be seen as a step towards stabilizing the domestic fuel market and offering relief to end-users.
