Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has recently expressed his views on individuals who are well-versed in Bible characters but remain unaware of the history of their own ancestors. According to Edochie, such individuals are, in his words, "lost."
In a statement shared on Sunday, the actor emphasized the importance of exploring and connecting with one's ancestry and lineage. He urged Nigerians to take a closer look at their own heritage, stating that a deep understanding of one's roots is just as important, if not more, than biblical knowledge.
Edochie made it clear that people who are oblivious to the achievements, history, and cultural significance of their ancestors, including their great grandmothers and grandfathers, should feel a sense of shame. He expressed concern that many people focus on the biblical stories of figures like Peter, Paul, and Joseph in the Bible, but fail to show equal interest or respect for the traditions and accomplishments of their own African lineage.
He wrote, “If you’re an African, and you know all about Peter, Paul, Joseph in the Bible and the people of Israel, and yet you know nothing about your village, your ancestors, your lineage, the exploits of your great grandfathers and grandmothers, you should be ashamed of yourself.
You’re lost.”
