Popular Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has strongly criticized well-known food critic Opeyemi Famakin after he publicly defended Chef T, also known as Diary of a Kitchen Lover, amid an ongoing controversy over a failed collaboration.
The dispute began when Wumi Toriola openly accused Chef T of ignoring her request to collaborate on her cooking show. Feeling slighted by the lack of response, the actress took to social media to express her displeasure, calling out the professional chef for allegedly snubbing her.
In reaction to Wumi Toriola’s claims, Opeyemi Famakin released a video in which he showered praises on Chef T, describing her as one of the most respected food bloggers in Nigeria who frequently collaborates with those she values. He further condemned the backlash against her, emphasizing that he would not stand by while an actress unfairly criticized Chef T.
However, Wumi Toriola did not take Opeyemi Famakin’s comments lightly. She swiftly responded with a scathing message, labeling the food critic a “coward” for failing to mention her name directly while shading her.
In her words, she wrote:
“Dear Opeyemi, there’s no need to act like a coward. My name is Wumi Toriola, and I am only responding to your unnecessary tantrums and desperate attempts at relevance. If this controversy gives you even a shred of recognition, I truly do not mind.”
She went on to question Opeyemi Famakin’s professional credibility, implying that his role as a food critic lacks substance and has done more harm than good to struggling business owners in the food industry.
“It is rather amusing that someone without a defined career or tangible achievements would take it upon himself to judge others. You have damaged the reputations of many struggling entrepreneurs under the pretense of being a self-proclaimed food critic,” she continued.
Not stopping there, Wumi Toriola wrapped up her statement with a stinging remark, advising him to focus on building a long-term career before attempting to challenge her.
“Next time you feel the need to come for me, take a step back, reflect, and work on establishing a lasting career or a successful business. Maybe then, your opinions will carry some weight,” she concluded.
