Activist Verydarkman’s legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, has provided a fresh update following the recent release of his client by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The lawyer shared his thoughts publicly as conversations continue to unfold around the case and the circumstances of Verydarkman's arrest and detention.
Recall that on Wednesday, the anti-corruption agency released Verydarkman, five days after he was taken into custody on May 2, 2025. His arrest sparked national attention, widespread social media outcry, and protest actions calling for his release and transparency from the authorities.
In the aftermath of his release, his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, acknowledged the role of the EFCC and expressed a surprisingly positive view toward its leadership. He noted that, despite everything that transpired, he still holds admiration for the current EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, for the way the matter was ultimately handled.
Adeyanju clarified that no conditions were attached to Verydarkman's release. He stated that he personally applied for his client’s bail and made a legal undertaking to ensure that Verydarkman would appear whenever required by the authorities.
However, despite his release, Adeyanju revealed that the EFCC is still in possession of some of Verydarkman’s personal property, including his mobile phone and his vehicle, indicating that aspects of the investigation may still be ongoing.
The lawyer wrote …
“Despite everything that has happened, i still like the EFCC Chairman. And there was no condition for VDM’s bail. I was the one who applied for his bail and I made an undertaking to produce him anytime he is needed. His phone and car still with EFCC.
This is a stand alone appreciation post to all RATELS worldwide. You guys are not just a movement, you are one of the most potent agitators against oppression and tyranny in Nigeria today. Thank you everyone for all the protest, posts online and never staying quiet. You are the real heroes. ✊👏🙏
Now to those who said VDM’s arrest was a distraction, they can go ahead and rescue Nigeria from Tinubu’s government. There’s no more distraction.”
