Popular filmmaker and actor, Ugezu J. Ugezu, recently shared a compelling story about a Nigerian doctor who made a drastic life change by selling his medical clinic in Nigeria to relocate abroad, only to find himself working as a butcher in his new country.
Taking to his Instagram page, Ugezu issued a cautionary message to Nigerians who are eager to ‘Japa’ — a slang term for emigrating in search of better opportunities abroad. He used the story of this doctor as a vivid example of how the grass is not always greener on the other side.

According to Ugezu, the doctor relocated to the United States after selling his clinic in Nigeria. Despite his professional qualifications, he ended up working as a butcher in a meat shop, struggling to make ends meet while hiding from fellow Nigerians to avoid being recognized.
Ugezu wrote in his post:
“In the name of JAPA, a practicing medical doctor in Nigeria sold his clinic and relocated to the US. Finally, he is now in a US city. Guess what? He now works as a butcher in a meat shop, hiding from Nigerians to avoid being noticed…FOR HOW LONG? A lot of things are not really the way they appear. BE GUIDED. [Ugezu J. Ugezu Writes]”
Reactions have trailed this …
