Award-winning Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has recently ignited a wave of conversation across social media platforms after sharing her unfiltered opinion on Nigerian men during a candid appearance on GRM Daily’s “Thoughts in a Culli.”
Known for her bold personality, unshakable confidence, and chart-topping hits, Savage didn’t hold back when questioned about her thoughts on Nigerian men. Her response has captured the attention of fans and critics alike, as she offered a perspective that might not align with the usual praise often given to Nigerian men for their lavish displays of wealth and fashion sense.
In her statement, Tiwa acknowledged the flair that Nigerian men bring with their fashion choices, as well as their caring nature through financial gestures. However, she pointed out a significant gap when it comes to authentic romantic gestures. According to Savage, despite their outward displays of swag and material wealth, Nigerian men often fall short when it comes to showing true romantic effort in relationships.
“Nigerian men do have swag but they are not really romantic when it comes down to it. They know how to swag and splash cash but I’m not looking for that,” Tiwa revealed during the interview. Her comments suggest that while many Nigerian men might be adept at making grandiose gestures with money, the deeper emotional connections, which she seems to value, are often missing.
Savage, who is famous for her hit track “Somebody’s Son,” went on to explain that while Nigerian men may display generosity, particularly in the form of financial support, she is searching for something beyond material displays of affection in a partner. For Tiwa, the quest for meaningful emotional connections and mutual affection supersedes any display of wealth, as she emphasized that materialism does not equate to genuine love and conne
ction.
